BAD+ Residencies

For the first time in 2024, several partner castles of BAD+ Bordeaux Art + Design hosted artstis for a unique residency.

Since 2022 BAD+, has aimed to support, produce, and promote contemporary creations among all audiences.

The launch in 2024 of artistic residencies withing the framework of BAD+ Residencies, organized as a part of the 3rd edition of the event, reflects BAD+ ‘s ambition to combine artistic creation in all its forms, both nationally and internationally, with the promotion of regional artistic heritage and the art of living.

Located on the edge of this vast territory, which houses prestigious institutions and castles that are great enthusiasts of contemporary art and design, BAD+ opens its doors to artists and their galleries, thereby creating a tangible connection with the public through meetings and exhibitions through prior to and during the event.

The BAD+ residencies will provide an opportunity for an artist to develop a project outside of their usual creative space, in close collaboration with partner teams and in direct or indirect dialogue with the works and/or objects in their collections.

Our Partner castles:

Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Already a collector, particularly of large outdoor sculptures, Château Smith Haut Lafitte has chosen to support BAD+'s new residency program this year by hosting Lélia Demoisy.

The artist will create an in-situ piece, notably using local wood from the estate, which will be unveiled during the Bordeaux Art & Design vernissage. Her gallerist, Lara Sedbon, is making her first appearance at the fair.

Cabane Yndo

Nestled in Cap-Ferret, the 13th room of Hotel Yndo, situated at the heart of Bordeaux, is a former fisherman's cabin transformed into a haven of peace and creativity.

Cabane Yndo will host visual artist Sean Crossley, invited to produce several pieces on-site, which will be exhibited at the fair by his gallery, Harlan Levey, making its debut participation.

Testimonials

“For our first time at the fair, we were seduced by the quality of the public during the vernissage and by the strong press presence. Some collectors form a virtuous little network and spread the word, so we didn't feel like outsiders at all, even for a first edition. One very positive event for us was Lelia Demoisy's residency at Château Smith Haut Laffite. The work she created there using the estate's wine barrels resonated with enthusiasts of the region, and we were lucky enough to enter into a dialogue - through Lelia's piece - with a very fine collection.”
