3 questions to Haily Grenet, new BAD+ Associate Commissioner

Meet Haily Grenet, who joins the BAD+ Bordeaux Art and Design team for this promising new edition.

If you had to tell the story of your career, what would you say?

For the past 15 years, I've been implementing, advising and developing artistic projects and programming, specializing in video art, the art market and live performance. With a master's degree in communication management from Celsa, I have worked extensively in Africa, Europe and Asia. For three years, I lived in Seoul, where I worked with several Korean institutions, and in Southeast Asia (Hong Kong, Malaysia...).

Since 2016, I have led the production and management of cultural projects such as the OVNi festival, the Camera Camera Salon fair, the Rencontre Philosophiques de Monaco, the lyric company les Monts du Reuil, the director Stephan Grögler, and the COLLECTIBLE design fair.

I have also held the position of Director for Around Video Art Fair and Associate Producer for ART X Lagos.

As an independent curator, together with visual artists Emile Degorce Dumas and Vincent Voillat, I founded the Institut d'Esthétique, which took part in Glassbox, Palais de Tokyo and Centre Pompidou in Copenhagen and Paris.

Today, I'm a cultural entrepreneur and international art fair director. It's on the strength of these experiences that I join the BAD+ team with great pleasure and ambition.

What will you do at BAD+ Bordeaux Art and Design?

I am associate commissioner to Jean-Daniel Compain, the fair's founder. Thanks to my experience, I have a vast network of artists, curators, dealers, heads of institutions and collectors around me. My mission is to create a buzz around BAD+ Bordeaux Art and Design, to promote the fair to national and international galleries and to market the event.

What do you think of the contemporary art market in the region? The dynamic around Bordeaux?

The market is more realistic in the regions, less extravagant and more on a human scale. Seeing so many local private players mobilize confirms the dynamism and potential of this city to insert itself into the art market calendar. BAD+ is a wonderful initiative that rethinks the way contemporary art and design can be discovered.

What's more, BAD+ boasts a truly unique Art de vivre positioning. This confirms a desire to think of culture as a whole, without categorization.
